To call BYBORRE a brand would be an understatement. Yes they are in the business of making clothes but they aim to research and improve textiles as a whole, considering themselves more a textile innovation studio than a regular knitwear label.
BYBORRE is the brainchild of co-founder and designer, Borre Akkersdijk.Trained as a designer in both his home country of the Netherlands and New York, Borre’s fascination with yarns and trims lead him to studying fashion and the performance of various fabrics to wear. Consulting and collaborating with the likes of Nike, Rapha, Descente and Gore-tex.
Started in 2010 and based in Amsterdam, BYBORRE has continually explored the extent to which they can manipulate the knits they’ve become known for. Adhering to the ethos of “form follows function”, BYBORRE benefits from specialists and experts working in their studio, often using both manual techniques in addition to the circular knitting machines to craft unique textures and patterns to the BYBORRE library.
Placement of the BYBORRE fabrics are carefully used in relation to their desired functionality and position within the garment. Heavier fabrics like the 3D are used to provide warmth, whereas lighter weight fabrics like the 8-Bit are used in areas that require higher range of motion or which are warmer. Resulting in several different fabric coming together in a single garment.
