Among Italians, Milan is widely considered the ugliest city in the country. It’s true the city’s industrial history and financial present have not left the cultural riches of Florence or Rome or Naples or Venice or even quaint, clean Turin farther north or gems like Verona to the east.
I spent a couple of days in Milan last week, and found much to admire in the business dress of Milanese men. It’s astute but not fussy, dressy but not stodgy, and most alluring of all, maintains some independence from the London/Naples/Internet #menswear vortex. Of course, not every single man in a suit on the streets of Milan lives up to the image that I have just described. But there is such a thing as a Milanese style of dressing, and it deserves characterization.
