Northern Alsace is an area of France best known for its sauerkraut, sausages, and white wine, but the region is also characterized by picturesque hills and lush landscapes. It was in these inspiring surroundings that the Heschung family started to manufacture footwear in 1934. Eugène Heschung began his career in 1920 as a cutter at a local shoe factory. When he started his own workshop, he immediately focused on heavy-duty boots and work shoes, always handmade in reverse welted or machine welted stitching.

Reverse welted construction proved to be very suitable for the waterproofing requirements of skiing and Heschung evolved into a specialist of leather ski boots in the 1950’s and 60’s. They even outfitted Olympic teams and medalists. Nowadays, they've been able to apply their expertise to a newer line country- and city-appropriate footwear, each made with simple, sober lines and a focus on creating shoes that will last.

In our search for sturdy yet well-designed boots to wear with casual outfits, we came across Heschung a few years ago, fell in love with the products first, and the story later. It only seemed natural that Heschung’s footwear be part of No Man Walks Alone’s assortment from day one.
