We've always enjoyed seasonal footwear, and in particular the joy that comes with wearing summer footwear when temperatures rise. Moroccan raffia slippers fall precisely in that category.
The material is light and wicks moisture, the texture is dreamy and it allowed us to work with Abdeljalil El Karti, a raffia artisan based in the coastal town of Essaouira, known for this particular craft.
After a few prototypes and tweaks to the shape and sole details, we had a great summer shoe that fits somewhere between espadrilles and welted footwear - alongside the huaraches that Chamula makes for us in Mexico every spring summer.
